THIS IS A LIVE EVENT ONLY.
This program focuses on the remarkable artistry of jazz photography, itself a special art form. A great many photographers, including jazz players who crossed over into photography, have left us with a visual record of jazz artists in performance, in simple interaction with others and the background scenes of jazz in practice. The visual record portrays the passion of performance. It also captures the mystique of jazz innovators and patrons in simple moments of expression and interaction. This special program will feature some extremely rare footage of a discussion with Johnathan Kane and Benny Golson about the iconic 1958 photograph of the Great Day in Harlem. Also, we will view a discussion between Delia Gottlieb and her son about her husband William P. Gottlieb’s legendary photography. Join us for a wonderful conversation.
